Hand-built Adobe Masonry Heater at CIDEP

 

 

 

This efficient masonry stove was built at CIDEP, a permaculture teaching center in El Bolson, Argentina.  The “double-bell” style masonry heater was built as part of a workshop on efficient wood-burning.  The heater is in the home of Alejandro Allasia and includes a built-in baking oven and cooktop.

A recent report from Alejandro demonstrates the way in which a masonry heater is much more than just a heating stove:

“…the stove continues to be something of a center of activity; we do many things [with it]: we cook, we bake, we make toast, we heat water in pots, we dry clothes, we dry nuts…”
